The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Christ is grouped with 11 disciples/Apostles seated at His last Passover. Jesus Christ is instituting the New Testament Eucharist, which He has just stated " I will no more eat with you 'til I eat it New in the Kingdom." Of course His disciples are astounded at this saying. They are puzzled and John looks at Thaddeus, but Thaddeus, on the far right of the composition, stares at the Master. There are more details in this composition but what I really feel to portray is the authentic way men shared the meal in the Oriental custom. Men would recline on a couch with there feet directed away from the host. Leonardo da Vinci shows a more traditional supper of perhaps his time.
