Christ praying to the Father that His Cup might be removed. The cup of suffering for sinners and eventually crucified and yielding up the ghost.In the lower right hand corner of the painting, the
disciples or Apostles, Peter, James and John and the others are sleeping. God the Father is ministering to His son in the ray of light from Heaven which strengthens Christ to say " nevertheless as Thou wilt, let thy will be done" so now Christ can get up and go to His destiny to be betrayed by Judas Iscariot. When this final call to God is requested, Judas comes with a band of Jewish officials, soldiers, and others to kiss Jesus and betray Him.
